3 Ideas to Fuel Employee Engagement
Our President, Brad Skilton is often asked how he successfully reduced employee turnover from 19% to 7% while at Advent Health while increasing employee engagement from 3.7 to over 4.9 on a 5 point scale in the Revenue Cycle.
For those looking for the secret sauce, here is his formula:
1. Personalize: Everyone is motivated differently. For some it’s compensation, however, for others conditions, competition, challenge, choices, control, construction, collaboration, culture or competence drive them. Learn what makes your team tick or ticked. Avoid making them ticked, meet them where they each are, and lead every individual in the way that is most meaningful to them.
2. Right-Size: What is the workload like? Are shifts or workflow allocations set up in a way that load-balances the work and helps team members avoid burnout? Are workflow allocations also assigned by skill and complexity?
3. Incentivize: Many CFO’s and other healthcare leaders do not believe in bonusing Revenue Cycle team members. Why not? Just like a sales team, these people are in charge of growing your cash flow. A little bonus goes a long, long way to a front-line employee. If you take care of them, they will take care of you. Open your mind and your pocketbook and watch your cash flow open up as well!
